During the Twitter dust up that began these reflections, I was often asked why some men feel ashamed of the drive to satisfy desire that lies at the core of their masculinity.

The easy answer is “feminism”. Feminism, we could argue, has taken over all of our public institutions. Institutions that used to revere and encourage masculinity now smother and shame it. This change in social institutions, we could say, has caused men to internalize shame around the core of their masculinity.

“Feminism” is the obvious answer.

It is also the easy one. Certainly other factors play a role.
